Review Tour & Giveaway ~ Imago by N.R. Walker

Length: 45,000 words

Blurb

Nerdy, introverted genius lepidopterist, Lawson Gale, is an expert on butterflies. He finds himself in a small town in Tasmania on a quest from an old professor to find an elusive species that may or may not even exist.

Local Parks and Wildlife officer, Jack Brighton, is an ordinary guy who loves his life in the sleepy town of Scottsdale. Along with his Border collie dog, Rosemary, his job, and good friends, he has enough to keep from being lonely.

But then he meets Lawson, and he knows he’s met someone special. There’s more to catching butterflies, Jack realises. Sometimes the most elusive creatures wear bowties, and sometimes they can’t be caught at all.

Lawson soon learns there are butterflies he can’t learn about it in books. They exist only in a touch, in a kiss, in a smile. He just has to let go first, so these butterflies can fly.

Imago is the story of finding love, bowties, and butterflies.

February 25 - Foxylutely Books

I was actually a little nervous going into this book., having already read an elusive butterfly story. Then I get an email about a blog post that NR had asked Julie to read her book because she had no idea something of the sort was already written. Julie assured her they were nothing alike. I will second what Julie says. I've had the pleasure of listening to Butterfly Hunter by Julie Bozza and it was an incredible story, with a hint of "magic", Nicholas and Dave ARE gorgeous. From the first paragraph in Imago, I just knew they were going to be different and I was so excited to continue on.

I absolutely DEVOURED this book. I have a "thing" for nerds and Lawson Gale ticked all those boxes, bowtie and suspenders and all. I loved the fact that yeah, he may blush a lot, he did not hold back. What he thought, he said. He didn't let his "superiors" walk all over him, and he has an affinity to helpless creatures. Oh, and he has a dirty mouth when he's turned on, but doesn't like to admit it. What's NOT to love?

Jack Brighton is nothing to scoff at either. First impressions can make or break a relationship, but in this case it's not entirely true. Jack is also more than what he seems. Where Lawson sees a very tall and wide shouldered bulk of a man, Jack also has brains, bit more importantly the big heart, and super adorable dog, Rosemary, to go with it all.

I adored their little "perfect" date nights. How he would try to top them each time. The fact that he had Luke, his BFFs 4 y.o. son, be their chef for one night was totally awe-inspiring. You will definitely be a puddle on the floor with this book. It is beautifully written, it's never boring and it's full of incredible characters and plot. So get your tea and toast ready, cuz you're going to be stuck in this book for a few hours.

4.75*

I have a thing for nerds, and Lawson was the perfect nerd for me. The bowties, suspenders, the proper English. All of it...just perfect!! Lawson is a butterfly expert on the hunt for a butterfly that has only been seen once over fifty years ago. On his flight to Melbourne to Launceston he is seated across a man that he thinks has made fun of him. Once they land, after a bump in on the flight Lawson makes his way to the car rental desk where there has been a mix up with his rental. Along comes Jack, the other man on the flight, who overhears the car conversation and offers to give Lawson a ride.
Jack is totally taken by Lawson, the way he looks, the way he speaks and of course by the bowtie. While dropping Lawson off at his appointment, he realizes that he has left his luggage in his ute and decides to wait for Lawson to return it. When Lawson is done in his meeting, he is surprised to see the man waiting for him. And even more surprised when Jack asks him out on  a date.
Jack sets up the perfect date, with help from his BFF. And this begins the series of perfect dates and super sweet butterfly kisses from Jack.  These two are totally adorable together. And the sexy time that these two share are beyond hot. I love how Lawson isn't afraid to ask for exactly what he wants and boy does he get it.
It seems like it's been a long time since a book has totally taken me over like this one did. I really liked that there wasn't really any angst, I’m not one for a lot of angst..lol.
I also liked the fact that N.R. reached out to Julie Bozza to ask that she read the book to make sure there were no similarities between Imago and Butterfly Hunter which I have now added to my TBR..lol.  I really hope that we get more of Lawson and Jack somehow. They have quickly become one of my favorite couples.

I give this book 5 Butterfly Kisses!!!

I loved the characters, even the supporting characters brought light to the book.” - Goodreads Review “I liked this book, like really liked it. It is a sweet sweet m/m romance novel with a wonderful HEA. Thank you V.S. Morgan!! 5 Stars because: " Love conquers all.” - Goodreads Review

After witnessing his mother’s death, a once outgoing preschooler is now a quiet shadow of himself. The little boy suffers nightmares and rarely speaks, choosing to use the basic sign language he learned in daycare. Desperate to help his little nephew, Virge Stevens takes a leave of absence from the LAPD to bring Donovan, known as D to Montana for the therapy he needs.

A chance meeting at the library changes Virge and his nephew’s lives forever.
Jared Malone is one of five brothers, right smack damn in the middle. He is the peacemaker and the one who gets shit done. When his younger brother gets sick, Jared fills in reading to small children at the library. There he encounters a tall, dark, and handsome stranger and his cute little boy. Jared is immediately drawn to Virge but is still dealing with the betrayal of an abusive ex.
As the Malone family welcomes them to the ranch and into their lives, Virge’s instant attraction for Jared grows, but the cowboy is fifteen years younger than him. Will he be rejected?
Both men have secrets. Secrets that could destroy the connection between them. Can they overcome the odds and find happiness together?

Another blond cowboy stood in the middle, working with a horse. He had a long rope around its neck, guiding it around the ring at a quick clip. The shirtless cowboy spoke in a firm yet quiet tone. Virge nearly choked on his tongue, eyeing the golden skin and muscles on display. This was their cowboy.
The man whistled, and the horse stopped. He rubbed its shoulder, his back to them, as they reached the ring’s split-rail fence.

“Daddy!” D shrieked, and the horse whinnied and shied, bumping into the man as it swung around.

“Whoa, easy, Spike,” the cowboy soothed.

Virge struggled to prevent his nephew from launching out of his arms while the cowboy calmed the large, skittish animal. He’d never been near a horse and was struck by its size and power, which the other man skillfully controlled. As the cowboy turned, Virge saw a tattoo on his chest. A redwing blackbird with a rainbow-hued ribbon dangling from its beak. His heart beat a little faster seeing the colorful ink. Could he be gay? The cowboy handed the rope to a dark-haired man before pulling on a T-shirt that stretched tight over those muscles. He suppressed a disappointed sigh.

Nate chuckled. “You’ve got some explaining to do, bro.”

“Hi, I’m Jared. I remember you from the library.” He approached with a rolling gait Virge found extremely sexy and offered his hand after wiping it against his denim-clad thigh. Damn, he was built all over and tall, just an inch or two shorter than his own height.

Virge shook his hand, hyperaware of the firm grasp of warm, work-hardened skin. “I’m Virge, and this is Donovan. He goes by D.”
“Glad you could make it out—”

“Why did he call Jared daddy?” Nate interrupted.

“He calls all men daddy and women mommy. If he especially likes someone, he adds their first names. D doesn’t talk much, so he must like Jared.” What about this cowboy had inspired his nephew to talk?

After the tragic death of his sister, LAPD detective and author, Virge is now the guardian of his nephew D. D suffers from selective mutisum, to get him the best help available, Virge finds a wonderful therapist in Montana. He takes a leave of absence and he and D move so he can have the best treatment possible.  Upon the suggestion of the therapist, he takes D to the local library where a very attractive cowboy is reading to the kids. D is instantly taken by the cowboy which surprises Virgie.
Jared is doing his brother a favor by filling in for him at reading time at the local library. He notices a very handsome man with a little boy sitting on his lap. He had no idea the impact he had on the boy, and also the man.
Virgie tells the therapist about the library experience and she suggests that they go to the cowboys ranch, when they get there he is surprised that the cowboy they are looking for isnt the same one that was at the library. Jared comes around and D is overly excited to see him again, and honestly so is Virge. I loved how Jared's family opened not only their homes but also their hearts to Virge and D. I fell in love with all of them!

Of course it takes a little for Virge and Jared to get together, and once they do it is HOT!!! I never really noticed the interracial aspect of the couple and I did like how that was not made into a big deal.
Jared’s past comes back to haunt them, and with it digs up Virge’s secret as well. Once that was all over they were finally able to get their HEA.
I really enjoyed this book. However there were times that i felt like the flow was a bit off. I know that there are two other books in this series but I didnt feel lost at all in that respect, it seems as if each book is based off a member of Jared’s family and can be read as a stand alone. There was some information given on one of Jared’s brothers that makes me believe that he will be the next book.

I give this book 3.5 sweet stars.

Virtual Blog Tour, Spotlight & Giveaway ~ Half by Eli Lang

About Half

Living between worlds has never been comfortable, but it’s where I’ve always fit: between human and fey, illness and health, magic and reality.

I’ve spent the last six years looking for a cure for the nameless sickness eating me up. If I believed there was one out there, I would keep searching. But there isn’t, so I’ve come back home, where my past and present tangle. Come home to live . . . and to die.

But my father insists I meet Kin. He’s a healer, and determined to help, even though I’m not so hopeful anymore. But Kin isn’t what I expected, in any way. He sees me, not my illness. He reminds me of what it’s like to be alive. And I can’t help falling for him, even though I know it isn’t fair to either of us.

Kin thinks he has the cure I’ve been looking for, but it’s a cure that will change everything: me, my life, my heart. If I refuse, I could lose Kin. But if I take it, I might lose myself.

In this scene, Luca, the main character, has bumped into Kin, a man he met a few days ago and hoped to see again, but was nervous about contacting.  Luca’s sister has engineered a second meeting between the two of them, but now that Luca’s found Kin, at a dance club, he’s not sure what to do.

Excerpt:

“Come dance.”

I hesitated, unsure now that I realized how out of place I was there.

He lifted his hand to me. “Come on.”

“Why didn’t you come see me?” I bit my lip. I didn’t like sounding needy, but I wanted to know.

He let his hand drop. He frowned, the expression small and tight, but he didn’t let his eyes move from mine. “I was nervous.”

“Why?” I noticed that there was a scrap of something sheer attached to his wrist, running down his arm. It caught the lights and shimmered when he moved his hand. A fin. It was a small fin. I could see the fine bones that lined it, like the bones in a bat wing.

He shrugged, a casual gesture, but it was almost uncomfortable, embarrassed. “I didn’t know if you wanted to see me again. I don’t tell you anything good.”

“I do. Want to see you.” Awkward, everything about this moment, everything I was saying. But it didn’t seem to matter. It seemed, instead, like he was as nervous, as unsure, as I was. Afraid that I would tell him there wasn’t anything between us. It made me want to say true things, instead of flirting or playing around like I might have with anyone else. It made me want to reach for him, show him I meant it when I said I wanted him near me.

He held my eyes for another second, and I saw that his were green, deep in color, shimmery, like diving underwater and looking up, past the surface, to see the trees above. He offered his hand to me again.

I took it. His fingers wrapped around mine. It was another reminder that he was fey—he was thin but strong like a willow branch, and his fingers could circle my palm, they were that long. He pulled me deeper into the club. People moved out of his way. They didn’t even seem to notice him slipping past, but they stepped aside, and I followed. We reached a spot in the middle, and he turned to me. Our bodies were pressed close by the people around us. The music made me sway. Kin raised his hands over his head, wrists straight, fingers loose. Scales, moss green and chocolate, curved around his arms like bracelets. He tilted his head back and smiled. He was as free as he had been that first time I’d seen him, as glorious and at home, as if he didn’t care what anyone thought of him in that moment, or maybe didn’t even realize that anyone was watching. Anyone but me.

His body twisted as he danced. One hand came down and rested on my hip. His touch was almost hesitant, his fingers on me light. I moved in to him, pressing against the heat of his palm, and his grip tightened, holding me to him. I was dancing with him. I couldn’t stop. He was so comfortable, and I wanted to be in that space with him. He opened his eyes and smiled wide, and it was directed at me this time, not at the place and the atmosphere. All for me. His fingers tucked themselves into my belt loop.

“You’re not like my sister.” He wasn’t like anyone. He didn’t behave like the fey I knew. He didn’t act like them or speak in circles like them or pretend to be genuine when he was really telling a crooked lie that could be interpreted as the truth.

Kin just shook his head. I didn’t know how he’d heard me over the music and the laughter and shouts around us, but I knew he had. He pulled me closer, which seemed impossible. We danced together, and we danced with the people around us. I could feel his body all along mine, the flat planes of his stomach, the points of his hips, the bump of his knee against my leg. He stared down at me, his body still moving effortlessly to the music. He didn’t look at me like I was all he could see. It would have been impossible, wrong in a way, to deny everything, everyone, else around us. But he looked at me like I was important. Like maybe in that second, I mattered the most.

All I can say about Eli's debut novel is...wow.

It's deeply emotional and highly poetic. Luca is so very strong and very brave. Faced with an illness he or any doctor, human or fey alike, know nothing about or how to cure. The fact that this illness takes a toll on him both physically and mentally and yet he still searched all over the world shows a lot of courage. Even more so to accept that fate and prepare for the inevitable.

The relationship he has with his sister is an odd one. Seeing as she's full fey and has this way about her that seems aloof and uncaring, when in fact it's quite the opposite. Sabin just doesn't know how to approach Luca anymore, and she didn't know the extent of his illness until after he'd come back.

Luca is told about this special Japanese healer and is to meet with him to see what he has to say. Kin, a water fey, upon meeting Luca was about to refuse him, as he thought Luca was just some privalaged "royal" until a bought of his illness disrupts their meeting. After meeting Luca and seeing what he's going through and just getting to know him a bit, Kin is bound to try and find him a cure.

This story is pretty sad, kind of reminds me of A Walk to Remember, but with fey.  I was crying on and off through at least the first 50%. The "cure" that Kin offers Luca is a very heavy one and Luca doesn't take this choice lightly. It's basically tearing him up. There's a lot of indecision at this point.  Either Kin loses him early or he loses Kin later, much later, and then lives on. Only, it's not a guaranteed cure in the first place as it's just a myth. When I said Luca was brave before, by the end of the book I think so even more. It took a LOT of courage to make his choice, regardless of the outcome of losing Kin or not. I personally would have made the same choice.

Without death this life would not be a gift.
It was a very powerful thought, and I'm glad to have read this book. I will definitely be looking for this author in the future.

Guarding Mr. Fine (Tough Love #3) by HelenKay Dimon

In this steamy novel of seduction and international intrigue, two brave men are stripped of their defenses—and exposed to dangers and desires that simmer below the surface.

As an agent with the CIA’s special activities division, Seth Lang lives for risk—and yet he’s stuck playing bodyguard to the U.S. consul general in Munich. Although Seth’s last assignment nearly killed him, babysitting some desk jockey in a suit sounds way too easy. But when he lays eyes on the new top man, tactical expert Rick Fine, Seth’s thrilled to see just how hard this job is going to get. Mr. Tall, Dark, and Quiet has a body worth guarding—and he requires hands-on attention day and night.

Dispatched to a German consulate to expose the murder of his predecessor, Rick finds himself in an extremely vulnerable position. He needs a man like Seth—in so many ways. This mission will inevitably plunge them both into jeopardy, but each new threat only brings them closer. Rick just hopes that he can keep his deepest, darkest secret hidden—or else risk imperiling a relationship they’re both fighting for their lives to protect.

Fall in love with the men of HelenKay Dimon’s thrilling novels:
MR. AND MR. SMITH | THE TALENTED MR. RIVERS | GUARDING MR. FINE

Includes an excerpt from another Loveswept title.

"I probably, maybe, someday soon, love you"

Wow, this is the best one in the series to date.
I adore everything about Seth and Rick. Their chemistry right from the start (aside from the awkward departure of a 1-night stand in a club) was in sync. These two were on fire with their banter.

The action in this series seems a bit over the top, but I like it. Kind of like overly done action movies, like Die Hard. This book wasn't quite as "loud" as the first book, and even less than the second. It felt a little more believable to me, but even then, I think k it's just Seth and Rick that made me love it all the more.

When Seth would get jealous and did his grumbling, it was sort of adorable. Rick calling him out on it was even funnier, especially where Alec (ex friends with bennies) was concerned. I love that Rick didn't let Seth walk all over him, he took the situation by the balls himself, and wasn't afraid to stand up to Seth.

I all around liked the characters better in this book, even Helena and Max had me laughing. At the end all you could do was shake your finger at Helena and say "oh, you!"

4.5* for me and I really hope Alec is next. He's so cold and calculating, I wonder what's going on in his head.

Oh how I have missed this series!! This is the story of the sarcastic, snarky Seth and the super hot nerdy desk jockey Rick. It starts off hot and just gets hotter as it goes. The chemistry these two have is off the charts!  And the witty banter between them was great.

Of course there was a lot of action in this book, and not just the bedroom kind. And speaking of the bedroom, these two were HOT!!! Of course there are secrets that each of these are holding and they do all come to the surface. One secret that Rick is carrying could jeopardize their relationship.

Of course there are a few secondary characters that want..no NEED to know more about. The one that I need more of is Alec, he is Rick’s friend (once with benefits) and he is just so mysterious. There is more to him that just the produce business for sure. I really hope he gets a book and soon!

I think this has been my favorite book of this series so far and can’t wait to see where it goes from here. So get on it HelenKay..lol!

I give this book 4.5 Super Sexy, Snarky Stars!!

My FallenCon agenda is simple: sit on a couple of panels and let people meet the real me. Jesse Garvy—mod of a famous Twitch channel and, if I ever come out of my shell, future vlogger. I definitely didn’t plan to sleep with a moody tattooed fan-artist, but he’s gorgeous and can’t keep his hands off me. There's a first time for everything, and my first time with a guy turns out to be the hottest experience of my life.

But the next day, I find out my moody fan-artist is Ian Larsen AKA Cherry—someone I've known online for years. And he'd known exactly who I was while shoving me up against that wall. Before I figure out whether to be pissed or flattered, the con ends.

Now we're back online, and he's acting like nothing happened. But despite the distance between us, and the way he clings to the safety of his online persona, we made a real connection that night. I don't plan to let him forget.

Ian/Cherrycakes/Cerise is one complicated MF.
There are many sides to him and it kind of made my brain swirl. I think it kind of made Ian's brain swirl pot, because he didn't know who to be at one time to the next. Not that he really had split personalities, but more protective gear in certain situations, and rightly so. I also feel that this is Santino's character. Whether that's fact or not, I'd love to ask him for sure, but I feel like I can feel Sunny behind this character, in the way he's written.

Jesse Garvy aka Garvy is protective when it comes to mod-ing for Kai and for his fellow moderators, but when it comes to his own life, he seems to become a doormat. He's this sunny looking surfer boy who wants to have dreams, but he's held back by the parents he seems to take care of instead of the other way around. The only person who seems to stand up for him day to day is his cousin Beau, a professional vlogger. Jetties to be supportive for Jesse and get him to do things, but it isn't until after he meets Ian, and things get really tested, that he actually breaks free.

Even though Jesse and Ian are mods together on Twitch, they don't really know each other "personally". Well, at least Jesse doesn't know what Cherrycakes looks like. So when he meets Ian at FallenCon and becomes super smitten, Ian is reluctant to tell Jesse who he really is. By the time they're up on panel it's too late, and Jesse is furious for having been lied to. Needless to say, there's a lot of ups and downs between these two as to the hiding and running away and being broody artists.

I get that Ian is having difficulty melding all of his personas together and being afraid to put his real self out there, but it kind of gave me a bit of whip lash, and I felt a little bad for Jesse. I also felt bad for Ian, because he really really struggles with this. But when Ian sees Jesse standing up for him, it's really no longer a question and it all falls in place so easily.

I cried for Jesse. Not that his parents were awful, they were just neglectful and selfish. He felt this loyalty to them that held him back. In some ways it was honorable, and in other ways you just wanted to shake him and say "you need to do you, booboo!"
But I lived the way Ian and Jesse gave each other the confidence to finally be who they wanted to be. It was a very sweet ending. I really hope there's more of them in the future.

Beau and Zane, Beau and Zane, I can't wait for Beau and Zane!!! If this is even going to be a thing, I think it's going to be funny AF. Beau is so "happy" and Zane is so "grumpy-esque". The opposites things is going to be great!

Overall I give this between a 4 & 4.5 *

Excerpt:

Feeling reluctant to take his hands off of Hunter's sides, Van climbed off the back of the bike and stretched his legs a little, smiling sheepishly at Hunter.
"It's been a while since I road on a bike," Van told him and smiled.
"Yeah, well, I've been on it for the last three weeks, pretty much straight. I eat, sleep, and ride. I'm on a bit of R&R now."
Trying to keep his giddy smile hidden, Van wanted to jump up and down that this god-like creature was in his small town for some R&R. Turning so he faced Jocassee Lake, he leaned on the side of the picnic table. He loved the view from this spot and could usually gaze for hours at the wildlife and rugged terrain, but he was too focused on Hunter to take it all in today.
"So, how long are you in town for, Hunter?" Van whispered.
Doing a little stretch as well, Hunter strutted over to where Van was leaning. He had a loose-legged walk that brought Van’s mind immediately to sex. Looking into his eyes, Van couldn't help but get lost in their depths again. Time seemed to stand still as Hunter leaned into Van's space and whispered, "As long as you want me to be," and kissed the side of his mouth.
Van couldn’t breathe, he couldn’t focus. All he could do was feel, and what he felt stunned him.
The only noise, besides the occasional hawk screeching for his next meal, was Van's gasp of air as Hunter kissed him again, lightly running his tongue over Van's lower lip before gently biting it. Van’s arms had a mind of their own as they grabbed onto Hunter’s hips, pulling him closer.
Both were out of breath, and they hadn’t done anything but exchange a few light kisses. Van couldn't ever remember getting so turned on by just a kiss. This man was so good, yet so bad for his heart. Van could feel himself getting addicted to Hunter’s kisses and craving so much more. He was fucking screwed and he knew it.
                                              ****
Shit, Hunter thought about what Van would taste like the whole ride up the mountain, now he couldn't get enough. His taste was warm and sunny with a hint of cinnamon. When Van's hands landed on his hips, pulling him forward, it took all of Hunter’s control not to grab his head and plunder his mouth with his own. But he knew less than nothing about Van, other than he seemed a little on the shy side, and he didn't want to scare him away. Hunter was more of a rough around the edges, take no shit kind of guy, but being there with Van made him want to take his time and savor. Savor Van’s taste and the way his cock rubbed against his through his jeans. Jesus.
"Kiss me," Van begged as Hunter again ran his tongue around his mouth, biting not so gently this time at his lips.
Needing no more encouragement, Hunter grabbed the back of Van's head and slid his tongue roughly into Van's mouth, enlisting a long groan from the man. Van’s cock, having a mind of its own, rubbed faster against Hunter's, and his tongue wrestled for domination. Hunter grabbed the hair at the back of Van's neck, forcing his tongue deeper into his mouth, sliding his tongue in and out, mimicking what he wanted to do next. He couldn't get enough of his taste, of his essence, his scent. Hunter didn't get mushy about kissing a guy, but damn it, he felt that kiss to his balls and back and was ready to explode.
The sound of a car pulling onto the gravel had the two reluctantly pulling apart, but not breaking eye contact as the car headed back in the same direction it came from.
"Well, that was..." Van touched his lips and smiled.

"Yeah," was all Hunter could get out as he adjusted his dick in his tight jeans. He couldn’t understand his need to hold on to this moment. He wanted to grab hold of Van and never let go.
